Locum Respiratory Nurse Specialist – Up to £360 p/d Temporary

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Respiratory Nurse Specialist to join a multidisciplinary team at a GP and Out-of-Hours practice throughout July. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in respiratory care, particularly COPD management, and be committed to delivering exceptional patient-centred care in a collaborative and supportive setting.

Duties

• Deliver high-quality respiratory care, particularly to patients with COPD, through tailored treatment plans.
• Conduct assessments, spirometry (if trained), and reviews of patients in line with national respiratory guidelines.
• Monitor respiratory status, administer prescribed medications (e.g. nebulisers, inhalers), and escalate care when required.
• Work collaboratively with GPs, ANPs, HCAs, and pharmacists to provide integrated respiratory care.
• Educate patients on disease management, smoking cessation, inhaler techniques, and self-monitoring strategies.
• Maintain accurate, detailed records using SystmOne, ensuring documentation meets clinical and legal standards.
• Promote and maintain a safe, hygienic clinical environment in accordance with infection control policies.

Qualifications

• Valid NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Band 6+ Specialist Respiratory Nurse
• Proven experience in respiratory care, ideally within a COPD clinic or community/primary care setting.
• Proficiency with SystmOne or ability to learn quickly.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support patients and liaise effectively with the wider clinical team.
• Strong clinical judgment and the ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
• Compassionate, organised, and committed to improving outcomes for patients with chronic respiratory conditions.

Shift Details

• July cover
• 8-hour and 12-hour shifts available
• Up to £360 per day, depending on shift length and experience
