The thermal relief valve (TRV) prevents heat damage to water seals and other internal pump components by opening to allow hot water to exit the pump allowing cool water to come in via the pump inlet. The TRV is a failsafe and is not designed to cycle through a high number of uses. To prevent the water inside your pump from getting too hot causing the TRV to open, shut off your pressure washer if you will not be spraying.
